ABOUT STRANGE HARVEST

Murray Cowan AKA Strange Harvest. My work revolves around the graffiti scene here in South Africa. I have worked for many big corporate brands over the years, achieving some amazing art work on small, as well as large, scale surfaces. When I was introduced to spray-painting at a young age, it soon became my dream to be a professional mural graffiti artist. I can say I am living that dream today.

I go by the name Strange Harvest and I am proud and confident enough to say that my work and style has, and will continue to, benefit the ever so growing scene of graffiti art, street art and mural art here in South Africa. I am a massive believer in the term “achieving the unachievable”. I am a multi-disciplined creative artist who is motivated to succeed in painting large scale murals with extremely vibrant colour combinations and detailed affects. This allows me to send a positive message across to the people that are on the other side of your work, spectating and emerging with their opinions.

While many recognize Strange Harvest as an ultra-talented draftsman and an amazing colourist, I am presently moving the boundaries of my own artistic research in new conceptual directions, looking at graffiti, portraiture, nature and design as an archive from which I can physically pull out samples that embody my own roots. I have developed a kind of contemporary, realistic, shading style that combines various patterns, faces, foliage and design to meet at its forefront of madness, covering corporate and rural spaces, keeping a trace of the colorful yet vibrant country South Africa portrays itself to be.

Strange Harvest and where the name came from. When I was starting out as a graffiti artist in my late teens, I was designing and printing t-shirts as an alternative source of income.

I went through multiple names and ideas for the branding and designs for the shirts and ended up with the name Strange Harvest. The name stuck as I was quite a strange character then in terms of my physical style and appearance as well as my style in art and graffiti.

When I started to progress rapidly in the industry and soon learnt that there is a market for mural work, I decided to stick with the name Strange Harvest as it was the name that inspired me as a young artist. I still love the name and will never change it.

Strange Harvest is a company that has developed its style over the past decade to focus mainly on being at the forefront of the graffiti industry in South Africa. Being a part of the game for over 10 years, we have worked with some amazing brands and can safely say we are proud of what has been achieved with them.

We have produced work for clients all around the country, designing and painting according to a variety of briefs, where we apply our focus, determination and inspiration into each creative brief as if it were our last. We specialise in interior and exterior mural art of all sizes and scope.
